TACTS: Activity Support in Organizations

Project: TACTS (The ACTivity Support System)
Contact: Dr. G. Teege

This area deals with the support of activities performed by a single person, a group of persons, or an autonomous agent. We are investigating the typical processes occuring during interpersonal coordinative work and the possibilities of supporting these through a computer. The main kinds of provided support concern the structuring, the recording, and the execution of activities. We have designed an object-oriented model in which both the activities and their context, such as tools or involved agents, are represented as objects. Fine-grained multiple inheritance is used to model the large number of slightly different activities in a toolkit-like manner. The prototype system TACTS has been developed and used as a testbed for the support and integration of activities in various fields, such as document and SW development, structured communication, collaborative editing, or joint multimedia applications.
